NEW: MyNIISe App Trial Starting September 22, 2025
Malaysia has launched a new QR code immigration system called MyNIISe that will eventually replace MyBorderPass. The trial period runs from 22 September 2025 to 28 February 2026, and is available to travelers from 63 countries including Singapore.

 

 

Overview

Malaysia now offers a passport-less, two-QR-code immigration clearance system that aims to speed up the immigration process.

  • MyBorderPass – The current system for Malaysians only
  • MyNIISe – The new National Integrated Immigration System for Malaysians and foreign travelers from 63 countries (including Singapore)

Both systems are faster than autogates, reportedly taking only 5-7 seconds to clear!

  • Malaysian citizens who have registered with MyBorderPass
  • Currently limited to bus passengers and motorcyclists

MyNIISe (New System – Trial)

  • Malaysians and travelers from 63 countries including Singapore, US, UK, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia
  • Available for cars, motorcycles, buses, and lorries
  • Will eventually be mandatory for eligible travelers from January 1, 2026

Step 1: Queue at any MyBorderPass lanes.

Bus passengers must alight and proceed inside the checkpoint building for immigration clearance—even for QR code. Follow these 4 steps for a smooth clearance process as above.

While MyBorderPass can be the quickest way to clear immigration, expect large crowds and queues during peak hours or busy periods.

If you don’t like the sound of standing in line at immigration, try taking a private taxi from Singapore to Johor Bahru instead. When you take a private taxi, immigration and customs clearance is done inside the vehicle.

Important Note (During Trial Period (Sept 22, 2025 – Feb 28, 2026):

  • Both MyBorderPass and MyNIISe systems will operate in parallel.
  • Travelers are encouraged to try MyNIISe for better efficiency.
  • After trial period, MyNIISe will replace MyBorderPass entirely
  • If you encounter issues using MyNIISe or MyBorderPass, simply proceed to the manual counters with your passport for clearance instead. 

 

Things To Note:

  • Physical passport is still mandatory and must be carried during travel
  • MyNIISe or MyBorderPass is not mandatory. You can still use the autogates or manual counters at both JB checkpoints.
  • If QR system fails, proceed to manual counters with your passport
  • MyBorderPass QR code only supports one user per phone. You cannot do group QR codes.
