At JB Checkpoint
Even better news—you don’t have to do any first-time registrations at the manual immigration counters to use the autogates.
Feel free to use the autogates with your Singapore passports, just like you would at Woodlands Checkpoint or Tuas Checkpoint.
Using Autogate at JB Checkpoint
Here are the steps to use the autogates:
Step 1: In the JB immigration hall, look out for the e-gate lanes. There should be signboards that read “Pintu Automatik”, “Autogate”, or “Singapore passport”.
Step 2: When it’s your turn, approach the machine with your passport open. Place the profile page on the scanner and hold it down. Wait until the scan is completed.
Step 3: Enter past the first gate. Stand before the camera for a facial recognition scan.
Step 4: Once the green light appears, you’re good to go! Simply walk out the second gate.
For a smooth process, don’t be impatient and follow the instructions carefully.
Alternatives if Rejected
Getting rejected at autogates is fairly common, usually due to issues such as fingerprint recognition, system errors, etc.

If that happens, try scanning at other gantries a couple more times. If that still fails, you’ll just have to head over to the manual immigration counter for clearance instead.
Sometimes, these issues can be quite stressful and add to your travel time. For a more hassle-free experience, you can consider taking a taxi to Johor Bahru from Singapore instead.
It’s especially convenient if you’re travelling with family, kids, or large groups (4 or more people) as immigration and customs checks are all done inside the car.
