In fact, traveling to JB from Kranji is pretty straightforward – just hop on a bus from Kranji MRT station, clear immigration, then cross the Causeway to JB!

Overview

Our favourite way to travel to JB, is via the Kranji MRT station, so that’s where we’ll begin!

Starting from the Kranji MRT station, all we need to do is take the correct exit and then hop on bus 170X or CW1 to the checkpoint!

As these two buses come around so often (every 2-3 minutes!), you won’t have to wait long!

Ready? Let’s go!

 

Step 1: Take Any MRT That Can Go To Kranji MRT

First things first, you’ll need to make your way to Kranji MRT station.

The easiest way to do that is to hop on any MRT heading towards Kranji MRT station.

 

Step 2: At Kranji MRT, Take Exit C To Opp Kranji Stn (Bus Stop Code: 45131)

Once you’re at Kranji MRT station, take Exit C, and a short 3 minute walk to the Opp Kranji Station (45131).

 

Step 3: Board Bus At Opp Kranji Stn To Woodlands Checkpoint

At the Opp Kranji Station, you can hop on any of the following buses to Woodlands Checkpoint:

  • SBS Bus 170X – The Most Popular Choice!

Bus 170X goes from Kranji MRT to JB Sentral via Woodlands Checkpoint (First Link) with only 4 stops along the way.

The final stop is JB Sentral Bus Terminal, which is just a short walk from JB CIQ.

That’s why most people simply walk over after clearing immigration—no need to hop back on the bus!

Tip: If you’re heading to JB Sentral, don’t hop back on the bus after JB Immigration—just walk over!

 

  • Bus CW1 – Fastest Option!

Bus CW1 is the quickest option with just 3 stops on its route – Kranji MRT Station, SG Woodlands Checkpoint and JB CIQ!

That’s why it’s my personal preference as it gets me directly from Kranji MRT Station to Woodlands Checkpoint with no stops in between!

  • SBS BUS 170

Another option is to take Bus 170 (coming from Queen Street) that makes 6 stops along the way from Opp Kranji MRT to Woodlands Checkpoint.

Alternatively, you can also take SBS Bus 160 coming from Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange that makes 4 stops from Opp Kranji Station to Woodlands Checkpoint.

Step 4: Immigration Clearance At Woodlands Checkpoint

When you reach Woodlands Checkpoint, hop off the bus and take the escalator up to join the queue for immigration clearance.

Note: While it usually doesn’t take too long, be prepared for crowds during peak hours, weekends and public holidays!

 

Step 5: Board Any Bus From Woodlands Checkpoint To JB Checkpoint

After clearing immigration, head down the escalator and make a U-turn to join the queue for the buses.

If you took an SBS bus to Woodlands Checkpoint, you can hop on any SBS bus to JB Checkpoint.

Similarly, if you took the CW1 bus to Woodlands Checkpoint, you can take any CW bus to JB Checkpoint.

Just take whichever bus arrives first – it’s that easy!

Step 6: Immigration Clearance At JB Checkpoint & You’re All Set!

When you arrive at the JB Checkpoint, head to the counters to get your passport stamped.

Reminder:  You may need to fill up the Malaysian DIgital Arrival Card (MDAC) up to three days prior to your arrival – check for exemptions and details here.

 

Once you’re done, head out of the counter area and walk straight.

Then it’s the final leg of your journey to JB and you have 2 options:

  1. Go to the Basement bus stop and board a bus to other parts of JB
  2. Walk to JB Sentral and enjoy your little break!
